5 Great Health Applications for Your iPhone

And 1 lousy one

Posted July 29, 2008

The release this month of Apple’s iPhone 3G, the sleeker, faster, cheaper version of the original iPhone, was met with cheers and long lines across the country. But the star that stole the show was the introduction at the same time of the App Store, which features hundreds of downloadable programs—some free, some not—for both the new and old iPhones as well as the iPod Touch.

IMPROVE YOUR CORE; EAT UP DOWNTOWN

29 07 2008

Hungry for something to happen Downtown? Its happening beginning August 18th when the best eateries in Downtown Jax tempt you with a variety of culinary fare. Now why some you may feel this is against your fitness plan, I have a piece of advice- LIVE A LITTLE! You can’t survive on bland protein bars and egg white omelets every day. If it makes you feel better, eat your heart out, then run to the gym on Laura St.

If you have questions, see loyal gym member Michelle Brooks of DVI. Just don’t bother her during her cardio routine. She’s getting ready for Eat Up.

Live it up, fitness freak.

Each member of our Go Team will receive Gold’s Gym discounts in the club on clothing, supplements, etc. Best of all, you meet people that share the same passion for fitness that you do.

GOLD SOUNDZ

24 07 2008

Gym music is lame. We get more complaints about the music piped through the gym. If we blast Indie, people cry for Top 40 (it makes my brain hurt. Seriously.) Then Jason flips it to Squizz on XM, rocks the house, and alienates every banker in town.

So in an effort to relieve controversy and flipping stations, I’m asking you to invest in an iPod. And to satisfy my own musical jones at the gym, I will list tunes that ratchet up my motivation. As I add to the list, I will keep a running tab under GOLD SOUNDZ.

Oh, I’m open to suggestions….gutreactionblog@gmail.com. We want to know what you are sweating to.

First up…..

LCD SOUNDSYSTEM- NORTH AMERICAN SCUM

RADIOHEAD- BODYSNATCHERS

WWJD? WORKOUT WITH AN IPHONE

24 07 2008

After all, it is named after him. OK, maybe calling a gadget the Jesus Phone is offensive to some, but it does perform miracles. In fact, its now the best workout partner you could ever want. Ipod, phone, internet, and now, workouts. With the App Store on Itunes, you can find free or fee based workout routines and fitness related apps and store them on your gadget. Want to walk through an upper body workout? Store it on your iPhone. Need to count calories? Do it with your phone.

Some we recommend:

FitReach- view your gym training for the day, diet and manage your weight goals.jayk

Iphone Fitness Tracking- Nike+ users rejoice!

Workout-helps to manage and control the interval training.

Fitsync- comprehensive storage. Helps track everything you do at the gym.

cityRunner- keeps track of all your runs, very easy to use.

There are a ton more and surely more in development. Check out the iTunes App store for the latest.

Did I mention you can win an iPhone from Gold’s? I think even Jesus would be into a free phone.

Run Your A#* Off!

23 07 2008

Take your Red Bull and dump it (or save it for your Vodka). My favorite energy drink is old fashioned Joe. At least that’s what they’re telling me twice a day at Starbucks (my two locations are closing. Thanks.). One cool thing about The Star is their fitness push. They teamed up with The Swoosh and created the Human Race, the world’s largest running event. The Race also supports some good charities. Check it out here

Let’s go Duval… Get your jog on!

11 07 2008

The gym industry has never been confused for “cutting edge.” So what if this blog is being reared years after early adopters made blogging a term? We’re here. Why, you ask? The simple need to write and give you our take on the culture of health and fitness.

Plus, reading it will save you money if you aren’t a member. How? Mention Gut Reaction and I will give you $50 off enrollment.
